Caring for Seafarers Around the World
Did you know that 90% of the world's traded goods are shipped by sea?
Seafarers of all ages and nationalities work an average of 80 hours a week (plus overtime) to bring us these necessary goods, and as an international population, they are often exploited. Work on board ships can be isolating, and seafarers are at a much higher risk for loneliness, depression, and suicide.
With an average of 30-40 ships a month coming into the Port of Seattle, the Seattle Seafarers Center serves those who work on board cargo, container ships, and bulk carriers by providing essential human services.
