If you are interested in booster shots, please note the following:
-
If you received a J&J shot initially, you will be eligible for a booster shot two months after your first shot. For example, assume today is October 27, 2021. If your first shot was on or before August 27, 2021, you are now eligible for a booster.
-
If you are eligible for a booster, you can now “mix and match” your second shot as long as your first shot is approved in the US. That means if your first shot was J&J, your booster shot can be J&J, Moderna, or Pfizer.
-
Boosters are not approved yet for those who are fully vaccinated with a vaccine approved outside of the US. For example if someone has already received two doses of AstraZeneca, we cannot provide them with a booster in the United States.
-

Vaccines and booster shots are free to merchant seafarers.
All seafarers need to register is an id with a birthdate. They will receive the COVID vaccine card once they are done,
and that information will also be registered in a database in Washington State in case they lose the card.

A Note about Onboarding or Offboarding crews: Vaccines are also available for free to crew members beginning or ending their contracts as long as crew have a valid visa. Please confirm with your shipping agent first. Then, contact the Seafarers Center to help arrange transportation and schedule an appointment.

A Note about Visas: if any member of your crew has an expired US visa, s/he may apply for an emergency medical parole granted through the US Customs and Border Patrol. This will grant the crew member(s) access to US soil long enough to receive a COVID vaccine. Please have the agent work with CPB to make that happen. We can provide transportation to seafarers to pick up their emergency paroles after those have been granted.

This is a developing process, so some of this may change over time. Feel free to reach out with questions and to ask about the links for upcoming berthings in Seattle.
